Almost all jobs require applicants to send in a resume. Many of us have already created a resume before and know that the first time creating one can be quite difficult. If you’re new to writing resumes you are probably worried and wondering whether or not you have created a professional looking resume. Just remember, a resume requires some work and if you want that job and the money that comes with it, your resume has to stand out. Whether you’re a newbie or experienced with resumes, a good resume writer knows the true purpose of a resume.
Before telling you about the true purpose of a resume, lets being by talking about the invention of resumes and where the idea came from. Resumes first came from feudal England and began as a letter of introduction from a Lord or Head of the local Guild when a man traveled to another part of the kingdom. Throughout all of the technological advancements, human resource advancements, and development of online employment practices this simple letter has transformed into what we now call a resume. Before we jump too far into what resumes have evolved to become, remember that first and foremost a resume is an introduction, so remember to make it a good one!
If you think the purpose of a resume is to land a job, you are wrong. The true purpose of a resume is to land an interview. Of course the end goal is to land the job but to be successful we must take the process one step at a time. Remember, the resume is supposed to build the interest of the interviewer so that you are called in for an interview. Basically, the resume is an advertisement of “you” in which you are selling yourself.
With that being said, lets take an advertising approach to your resume. If you created a product and advertised it over television, wouldn’t you want to grab the attention of people so that they buy it. Similarly, you want to sell yourself in a way that will make employers want to buy you. Make your resume stand out with good creative, catchy content, and honest results driven persuasion.
